OUR ROTARY SUCCESS WITH THE POLIOPLUS CAMPAIGN
Because of Rotarian support, more than 2.5 billion children have received polio vaccines and have been protected against this crippling disease for life. There are currently only two countries that are endemic: Afghanistan and Pakistan. We must not stop our efforts until we give the children a Polio Free world!
Gates Foundation partnership with Rotary has its roots in District 6440.
Rotary Voices, July 2018: a tribute to a tireless polio eradication volunteer, PDG David Waring recounts highlights from the life of Jack Blane, Rotary Club of Wheeling and giant in the history of District 6440.
Jack was District Governor of 6440 in 1979 when the war on polio began with the commitment to deliver oral vaccines to the six million children in the Philippines
At David Waring’s 2007 district conference Jack Blane had a dinner conversation with invited guest Bill Gates, Sr. Six months later the Gates foundation announced its challenge grant of $100 million. Since that time over $1 billion dollars has been contributed.
