FOUNDATION MINUTE – CELEBRATING OUR DIVERSITY
Rotary has changed a lot since it was founded in 1905. From a group of business friends from Chicago, Rotary grew over the years into a multi-faceted organization embracing men and women from all corners of the world.
Past Rotary President Sydney Pascall from London England, in 1931-32, shared his vision: To achieve an international unity for the organization, making it one family of Rotarians. In his address to the 1931 Rotary convention in Vienna Austria, Pascall said, “We are all Rotarians - There is one family of us.” He quoted the end of a Kipling poem: “For there is neither East nor West, Border, nor breed, nor birth, When two strong men stand face to face, Though they come from the ends of the earth.”
As we grow our membership, let us embrace our differences and celebrate the opportunities of sharing Rotary fellowship from a broad spectrum of neighbors, all with the same vision of doing good in the world.
